I am running for the City Council At-Large because the systems that are in place that are supposed to help people are not helping. Too many residents are struggling to get answers about rent, utilities, and basic services. The system should be working for the people, not against them. It is not applicable to everyone.
As a Lansing resident for over 30 years, originally from counties across Michigan, I came here with my husband who is a lifelong resident of Lansing. I am here as a servant to help our community.
With my extensive background in federal and state public service, I understand how government systems work and how to hold them accountable. With decades of experience assisting constituents in navigating these systems, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of the areas that require review.
I believe in getting inside to look at the issues because you cannot judge a book by its cover until you look inside. We need leaders who understand that it is not just about the systems - it is about the people those systems are supposed to serve.
Allow me to introduce myself to the World.
I am Gloria Denning. A recently retired Constituent Services Representative with the United States Senate, Office of United Sates Senator Debbie Stabenow. The 24 years of serving in the United States Senate culminated with the 10 years of serving the constituents of the Michigan State Senate afforded me the opportunity to develop a stronger set of skills to enhance the existing passion to serve.
My passion or gift for serving is driven by my heavenly Father who placed the drive and desire in me to help not only in times of crises, but also in times when there’s a need to make a difference. When someone has that “Life’s moment” of hitting the brick wall or can’t see the path to obtain the possible solution when the “Struggle Gets Real” for them, so does the motivation to help, to fight to find a possible solution or direction for the need.
Who is Gloria Denning, first a child of God, a wife, mother and grandmother. I am a listener, a fighter with a caring heart for my family, the people, the city, the state, the country and the nation.

Like a compass that always points true north, Gloria's leadership is unwavering. No matter which way political winds blow, she stays focused on what matters most: serving the people of Lansing.
With decades of public service experience, Gloria provides the steady, reliable leadership Lansing needs. Her moral compass always points toward integrity accountability, transparency, and putting people first.
Creating a city where all residents feel secure in their homes and neighborhoods. This means proper lighting, community policing that builds trust, and addressing root causes of crime through economic opportunity and support services.
Making housing affordable through accountability. We must hold developers and landlords accountable to ensure those who need housing can afford it. People don't choose to be homeless, and it will take all of us working together to create solutions.
Investing in recreational and cultural activities that bring our community together. From youth programs to senior services, entertainment and recreation are essential for building strong, connected neighborhoods.
This is at the heart of my campaign. City systems - from housing assistance to utilities support - must serve everyone, not just those who know how to navigate bureaucracy. I'll be the advocate residents need inside city government.
People who have served their time deserve housing and support. If we don't help them reintegrate, we'll have more homelessness and potentially more crime. Time served means they deserve a second chance and community support.
If laws, ordinances, or regulations exist in landlord-tenant agreements, we must hold property owners accountable. Tenants deserve representation and access to legal aid when they can't afford lawyers.
